I just posted this to the forum: but the workshop isn't broken, I just didn't know how to use it. My tip: have students post assignments to the workshop, then go onto something else. There is a 30 minute window between when a student posts his or her assignment to when other students can see the assignment for evaluation.

When I learned this from the Moodle forums I think I threw a party. I know I smiled and may have exclaimed something like NO @#$#$% WAY!

Quicktime and WMV Files

I ran into some trouble playing uploaded video files. I learned that if your browser has a Quicktime Player or Windows Media plugin, Moodle will try to play that file from within the browser. I uploaded each of those files and had Quicktime run successfully
but not WM.

As a workaround, I compressed the WMV file into a .zip file before uploading to Moodle, then linked to that file. By doing this, it forces the browser to download the file, then play it using the standard WMV app.… Continue

Moodle and Global Crossing

Yesterday I taught a Moodle intro using the Global Crossing web conference service. First, let me say that GC is pretty cool. People dial into a conference call and connect via the web so I can show slides, my desktop, my applications, or grant control of my desktop to one of the participants.

Next, here're some problems I ran into:
